Fans of Blade Runner should get excited. Annapurna Interactive recently unveiled an all new Blade Runner game that promises an entirely different plotline and experience.
At last night’s Annapurna Interactive Showcase (29 June), American game publisher Annapurna Interactive unveiled many exciting announcements, from Keita Takahashi (the creator of Katamari Damacy series) revealing To a T for Xbox to confirmation of Stray coming this summer, to their first internally developed title Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth being announced – as an impressive set of announcements!
As Polygon reports, we last saw an original non-VR Blade Runner game over 25 years ago when Blade Runner (1997) on PC was released – featuring its own original story set during the same timeframe of its counterpart film.
Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth will introduce viewers to an entirely different time period in the Blade Runner franchise; as its title indicates, it takes place between the events of its original film in 1982 and 2017 sequel Blade Runner 2049. However, its name could suggest otherwise; 2033: Labyrinth may take place after anime series Blade Runner: Black Lotus set in 2032 although no confirmation has been provided regarding whether its plot will follow on directly as 2033: Labyrinth simply states it “takes place after Black Out events”.
Other than that, we know very little of its story. On Steam’s official description page it states: “What will a Blade Runner do when there are no more Replicants left to hunt?”
So far, no official release window for Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth has been revealed; however, both PC and console platforms will soon see it arrive on store shelves.
