I can’t imagine anything more frustrating than installing the game that you’ve been waiting for months to play and then getting a vast installation size. 6e4242

It’s not just me. All gamers are becoming tired of the latest games occupying so much of their space, regardless of Xbox, PlayStation, PC, or Nintendo platforms.

Most of the worst are high-performance games like Call Of Duty, enormous open-world games like Red Dead Redemption 2, and games with advanced graphics such as Final Fantasy XVI.

Take that together with the small storage capacity on consoles of the present generation, which requires the purchase of more hard drives/SSDs. You’re now stuck in the awkward situation of organizing your game collection and deciding what games should be saved indefinitely and which must go.

A few players have had enough, but some are keen to know why the number of games continues to expand over time, as well as what exactly is included in these massive s.

Reddit curious_zombie_ wrote a thread that read: “Why Are Video Games such Big? What’s in 100 GB? 100 GB?” and was able to get a myriad of answers from other s, a lot of whom expressed their frustration the with size of video games is only increasing with time.

“Textures for 4k don’t magically make themselves the same size as HD.”

“4k textures that should be an OPTIONAL .”

“It’s generally due to games forcing you to everything, including aspects of the game that don’t require.

“If only games would give the player freedom of choice and only have them the stuff they want, this would massively lower the size of games.”

A few also raised the observation that many multiplayer games currently are stuffed with unlockable cosmetics, the majority of which players will not be allowed to use since microtransactions restrict them.

While some games now present the option to only the singleplayer/multiplayer, perhaps it’d be safer to just invest in a storage expansion rather than constantly mess around with installs/uninstalls.
