PlayStation Plus appears to have experienced its first cycle since launching back in 2010, though thankfully this issue does not impact everyone equally.
No one could argue it had been an easy year for PlayStation Plus. A sudden price increase did not sit well with many, who felt free games released since October 2023 did little to justify spending extra. October’s selection – Callisto Protocol, Farming Simulator 22 and Weird West were not particularly well received while November has not offered much excitement either.
Now, according to posts made on PlayStation Plus subreddit, some subscribers appear to be receiving another copy of a free game from 2016; it seems they could receive two!
PlayStation Plus s in the Middle-East will soon receive construction sim Tropico 5 as an extra free game – as opposed to Mafia 2, which wasn’t exactly met with enthusiasm from gamers – instead.
Tropico 5 presents several challenges; aside from having been released back in 2014 and not even being the latest entry of its series, PlayStation Plus subscribers received it again as part of a subscription in May 2016; we can confirm this was never previously done by PS Plus before this one! This appears to be the first instance in history when this had happened!
“Since increasing their price, quality has drastically declined! What gives? New games seem inferior compared to what was offered through PSNow,” one subscriber in r/PlayStationPlus lamented.
“Such an awful line up”, another critic commented. “At this point I am convinced they must have booked contracts for these games long ago and these may just be leftovers they need to move before more worthwhile ones may arrive in December/January when people buy new PS5s that require subscription services”.
