Original Oblivion Dev Calls Remaster “Oblivion 2.0” 613f5n

Following the surprise launch of *The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered* on April 22, a former Bethesda developer has praised the updated version, calling it more than just a standard remaster. 5c594s

Bruce Nesmith, who served as senior game designer on the original *Oblivion* and later helped lead development on *Skyrim*, said in an interview with VideoGamer that the remaster deserves more credit than the term implies. He described *Oblivion Remastered* as an “Oblivion 2.0,” noting the significant upgrades to mechanics and animations that go beyond typical graphical updates.

According to Nesmith, comparing *Oblivion Remastered* to something like *Skyrim: Special Edition* doesn’t do it justice, as this version features deeper changes under the hood—thanks in part to its rebuild in Unreal Engine 5.

Despite retaining the original story and expansion content, *Oblivion Remastered* includes quality-of-life improvements such as smoother movement and updated combat. The game also requires about 125 GB of storage space due to its enhanced visuals and physics.

The remaster has been a hit so far, peaking at over 128,000 concurrent players on Steam and earning an 82% positive rating. While fans await *The Elder Scrolls 6*, many are diving back into Cyrodiil to experience this modernized take on the classic RPG.
